Happy 10th birthday Peter!!

WARNING !!

Peter is now 10 years old!

Yep!  He is now in the double digits!  So big now!  So, it's only fitting to add a baby picture of him!  I can still remember it like it was yesterday.  

My Mom went with me to just a routine doctor's appointment and we were so looking forward to having chinese for lunch.  It turned out the doctor and Peter had other plans.  Peter ended up being born about 5 hours later!  Of course that is the short version of the story.  I figured you could do without the labor and delivery details.  

He requested that I make an Oreo Pie for his big birthday celebration!  It was quite yummy!

His birthday menu was the following:

Steak

Baked Potato

Salad

Break for presents

Oreo Pie

I was planning on grilling the steak and potatoes outside, but due to the enormous amount of rain we have been getting my George Foreman and crock pot were there to save the day.

Aaahh, the first present of the evening.  Abigail decided to photo bomb the picture!  

He was SO excited to get this shirt and I don't know why!  What exactly is Minecraft anyway?  All I know is that Peter loves it!  He learned about it from one of his friends at school.  I will have to thank that Mom (she knows who she is) for that!  

He LOVES the Cubs!  So, he was excited to add another Cubs poster to his Cubs themed room!  I have no idea where we are going to put this!  

Peter is also a fan of Tony Hawk and the color red!  

Finally, the Oreo pie with 10 candles!!  

Peter also got a brand new bike and an Ipod touch!  

The next day he said it was the best birthday!  

I don't know how we will be able to top that at his 11th birthday!!

 Yesterday was a fun day, but if you ask my 9 year old he would disagree!  As you can see by the photos he  was definitely in need of some orthodontist work.  So, as of 10:30 yesterday morning he now has braces!  He did pretty good with it until they hit him with the "bad" news!  

I ask for a smile and this is what I get.  Kind of scary isn't it?  

I think he looks grown up now!

What "bad" news you ask?  Well, he LOVES his popcorn and they told him he could NOT have that!  Now, when I say he LOVES popcorn, I really do mean he LOVES popcorn.  He would have a bowl of it every night if he could and sometimes he does!  There are other foods that he has to stay away from too which is upsetting for him.  He also has to take a little longer brushing his teeth which was a chore before the braces! 

It is so hard for him to understand why he had to have braces because all he thinks about is the food he can't have.  I always joke and tell him that if he doesn't get his teeth fixed I won't be paying for senior pictures!  So, please pray for him that he will get through this minor adjustment in his life.  

Today is the day...

Today is the day.  I wish I could finish that sentence...

Today is the day... that the Lord has made!

Even though that is true, today is the day that my 9 year old son has to get 2 teeth pulled!  Is he excited about it?  I would be lying to all of you if I said YES, yes he is!!  He woke up at 6:00 this morning, all dressed raring to go!  I would be lying to you, so he is NOT excited about one bit.  I mean, seriously, who would be?  I have never had a tooth pulled in my life and I hope I never do.  My son is 9 and terrified of shots!  I mean, he cries just talking about it happening.  So, as a mother, I am NOT looking forward to taking him today.  Why?  Well, I think it's the thought of your baby (yes, he's 9, but he's still my baby) going through pain.  I always joke with him and tell him that maybe he should not have mouthed off to me earlier, but he doesn't like that!  I try to make light of any situation!  It is necessary though to proceed with the next step and that is braces so this has to be done!  He wishes he didn't have the teeth he has, but he does, but he doesn't have to.  Do I want to pay the money to get it done?  NO.  Do I want him to be able to have nice senior pictures?  Yes.  Do I want him to be proud of his teeth as an adult?  Yes.  Do I want him to be embarrassed of his teeth when he gets older?  NO!  Those are reasons why I choose to spend the money on getting those two teeth pulled now.

So, as I was in the shower this (since that is the ONLY place I seem to have peace AND quiet), I prayed to God to help my son be brave.  I also prayed to for Him for help me be there for my son.

So, Pete did GREAT!  I was and am so proud of how he did.  I seriously thought that I would have to hold his legs down, but he kept them perfectly still!  He got a FREE scoop of Whitey's ice cream out of the deal too.  Not too shabby.  I told him that if he didn't want it, I could always take it!  He would not have that though!

So, we bought some soft food for him to eat (ice cream, yogurt, spaghettios, jello, mac n cheese) and headed home.
